Sierra Leone forced to rethink U-17 Women’s World Cup bid

Fifa Secretary General Fatma Samoura urged Sierra Leone to bid for the 2018 Under-17 Women’s World Cup despite Uruguay having been cleared to host the event

Sierra Leone says it is now focusing on staging a regional football tournament after establishing Uruguay will host the 2018 Under-17 Women’s World Cup.

Fifa secretary general Fatma Samoura surprisingly asked Sierra Leone to bid for the global event during her visit to Freetown last month.

However football’s world governing body says the decision taken in May by its council to approve Uruguay as the hosts remains unchanged.
