VTB United League – Round 13: Parma still not able to record any victory

OrlandoJohnson Bottom-ranked Parma is still unable to win any game. But it was rather predictable considering how strong their opponent was. This time they could not use their home court advantage losing their 11th consecutive match to second ranked Unics Kazan (10-1) 105-98 on Sunday evening. The guests trailed by 2 points at the halftime before their 24-21 charge in the third quarter, which allowed them to win the game. Strangely Parma outrebounded Unics Kazan 36-0 including a 12- advantage in offensive rebounds. Worth to mention a great performance of American swingman Orlando Johnson (196-89, college: UCSB) who helped to win the game recording 34 points (!!!) and 6 rebounds. Spanish point guard Joaquin Colom (188-88, college: Forca Lleida, agency: Interperformances) contributed with 20 points, 8 rebounds and 12 assists for the winners. Serbian swingman Danilo Andjusic (196-91, agency: Alti Sport) answered with 40 points (!!!), 6 rebounds and 5 assists (on 13-of-17 shooting from the field) for Parma. Parma’s coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn’t help. Unics Kazan have an impressive series of five victories in a row. They keep a position of league leader. Newly promoted Parma still closes the standings with 11 games lost. Unics Kazan are looking forward to face Lokomotiv (#4) in Kuban in the next round. Parma will play at home against Avtodor (#11) and hopes to get finally their first victory.The game between fifth ranked Russian Zenit (7-3) and 6th ranked Kazakhstan Astana (5-5) in Saint Petersburg ended with biggest points difference. Zenit outscored guests from Astana 99-72. American Aaron White (206-92, college: Iowa) stepped up and scored 19 points and 9 rebounds for the winners and Artem Vikhrov chipped in 22 points. At the losing side American forward Roderick Odom (206-91, college: Vanderbilt) responded with 18 points and 8 rebounds. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Zenit maintains fifth place with 7-3 record. Astana at the other side keeps the sixth position with five games lost. They share it with Enisey. Zenit will play against higher ranked Khimky (#3) at home in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Astana will play against BC Nizhny Novgorod and hopes to get back on the winning track. In the last game of round 13 Khimky beat Kalev/Cramo on the road 84-77.
