Arsene Wenger said he hopes Arsenal go on to win the UEFA Champions League and consistently compete for the Premier League when he finally departs as manager of the north London club.
Calls have been increasing for Wenger to leave Arsenal after more than 20 years in charge following another season in which the Gunners have failed to maintain a title challenge in the Premier League and are now struggling to hold on to fourth spot, per James Olley in the Evening Standard.
They were also knocked out of the Champions League at the last-16 stage for the sixth season in a row, and Wenger, speaking ahead of Saturday’s clash with relegation-threatened Norwich City, said he will continue to be an Arsenal fan after he leaves, per Joe Mewis in the Mirror:
I wish when I go the club goes higher up and wins the [Champions League] and championship every year. I will be the biggest supporter in the stand because I will feel i have contributed to that.
