Index finger may be lingering issue for Shelby

PITTSBURGH — Shelby Miller is scheduled to start for the D-backs on Sunday against the Padres, but Arizona manager Chip Hale indicated that could change as the team seeks to evaluate if the right-hander is completely healthy.
Miller is 1-6 with a 7.06 ERA in 10 starts this year and has struggled at times with his mechanics. In his April 16 start against the Padres, Miller banged his hand on the Petco Park mound twice during his follow through, causing his index finger to throb and forcing him to leave the game in the second inning.
There had been no indication that the finger was a lingering issue until Hale brought it up prior to Thursday’s game.
“I think his finger is still not where we’d like it to be after hitting it on the ground in San Diego,” Hale said. “He’s still having some residual effects of that with feel. He’s been good to pitch. He’s pitched through it. But we’ve got to make 100 percent sure that thing is …
