WASHINGTON — The Nationals are adding blazing speed to their roster. Shortstop Trea Turner will join the Nationals starting Friday against the Reds, while Ryan Zimmerman is expected to be placed on the paternity list, according to two baseball sources. The club has not confirmed the move.
Turner, the No. 2 prospect in the Nationals system according to MLBPipeline.com, is having an excellent season for Triple-A Syracuse, hitting .310 with three home runs, 24 RBIs, 17 stolen bases and a .376 on-base percentage. It remains to be seen if he starts against the Reds. If he does, Turner will likely play second base, which he has done in three games for Syracuse this season. Daniel Murphy would move to first base during Zimmerman’s absence.
