Upton Jr. pulls off straight steal of home in 4th

SAN DIEGO — The jump Melvin Upton Jr. got on his straight steal of home Friday night at Petco Park was perfect. His slide was even better.
With a heads-up play that was equal parts savvy and athleticism, Upton became the first Padre to record a straight steal of home since Everth Cabrera did so in 2012. It gave the Padres a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth inning of Friday night’s game against the Rockies.
