Peavy moved out of Giants rotation for Moore

PHILADELPHIA — Jake Peavy, who has made all but one of his 378 Major League appearances as a starter, was moved to the bullpen Tuesday to clear room in the Giants’ rotation for Matt Moore.
In announcing Peavy’s new responsibilities, Giants manager Bruce Bochy also said Moore, obtained from Tampa Bay before Monday’s non-waiver Trade Deadline for infielder Matt Duffy and two Minor Leaguers, will start Thursday’s series finale here.
Bochy indicated that determining whether Peavy or Matt Cain would switch to relieving wasn’t a decision arrived at quickly.
“It’s never easy to tell a veteran to make a role change,” Bochy said.
However, recent results spurred Bochy’s choice. After posting a 1-5 record with an 8.21 ERA in his first nine starts, Peavy found a groove and went 4-2, 2.45 in his next eight outings.
